Hetalia Axis Powers

Type: ONA
Episodes: 26
Status: Currently Airing
Aired: Jan 25, 2009 to ?
Producers: Studio DEEN
Genres: Comedy, Fantasy, Historical
Duration: 5 min. per episode
Rating: PG - Children

Synopsis:
Based on a popular web-released manga series by Hidekazu Himaruya, this has been described as a "cynical gag" story set in Europe in the years between WW1 and WW2 (1915-1939), using exaggerated caricatures of the different nationalities as portrayed by a gaggle of bishōnen boys. For example, the Italia Veneziano character is into pasta and women. The Deutsche (German) bishi loves potatoes and sausages, and Nippon is an otaku boy. Installments of the manga have jumped back and forth in setting from the ancient times to modern-day geopolitics. The manga's title comes the Japanese words for "useless" (hetare) and Italy (Italia).

Characters:
Ludwig "Germany"
A nation of battle-hardened knights who survived poverty and the turmoil of war under the shadows of Europe's glorious culture.

His situation is pretty terrible, considering how his neighbors include a stubborn (my pace) Austria, an eternally in-heat France, a trouble-making Italy, as well as a boss who's completely eccentric.

Voice Actors
Yasumoto, Hiroki
Japanese

Kiku "Japan" Honda
A small country that appeared in the latter half of the world's history and didn't take more than several decades to become a powerful country in the orient.
As an island nation, he holds distinct cultures and customs which other countries see as mysterious even though he himself thinks he's perfectly normal.
Has a personality where he doesn't know much about the world, but is hard-working, serious, skilled with his hands, and needs time to adjust to other people.
Loves watching the seasons change by admiring flowers and the moon, believes elegance is the best.

Voice Actors
Takahashi, Hiroki
Japanese

Ivan "Russia" Braginski
A gigantic northern nation that has been tormented ever since childhood.
Either way, whatever he does, there is vodka involved. His fuel is vodka. Whenever he wants to invade the south to obtain it, England is always there to get in his way, so truthfully, he wants to punch England.
Because he is attacked by General Winter pretty much every year, he hates the snow. Yet, whenever there is a war, General Winter becomes his best ally.
At the first impression, he seems to be a pure-hearted country bumpkin, and yet, conversely speaking, he holds a child-like cruelty. Compared to other nations, Russia's history has seen more bloodbaths and tragedies.

Voice Actors
Takato, Yasuhiro
Japanese

Francis "France" Bonnefoy
Was once a large nation in Europe that had the continent within the palm of his hand.
Ever since England was born, they have been at odds with each other and are always trying to see which one is better and be acknowledged as such.
Ever since Napoleon passed away, hasn't really been very good in war, but became a country known to attract tourists by wine alone (such as showing them to vineyards and to touring the process of wine-making).
Very proud, and prides himself for having the most beautiful language in the world. Loves beautiful things--of course, that includes both males and females.
